Your Ultimate Guide to Gaining Weight

Will Rapid And Large Amounts Of Weight Gain Stop My Period?

I’ve dealt with depression and emotional eating and I’ve gained about 85 pounds or so within the last year onto my 6′0 frame.
My period have always been irregular, but recently my periods have pretty much stopped. I haven’t had a period for at least four months now. I’m sexually active but not pregnant.
Just curious if my excessive and quick weight gain could stop my period and if anyone thinks that as I work to lose the weight my period will come back?

almost any change in your body can affect your cycle, talk with your doc about your depression and ways to get help with that and the eating habits. Also even though some women always have irregular cycles…get a thourough checkup and make sure nothing else was affecting it before the weight gain

Excessive weight gain will not stop your period. Some teens may develop irregular periods — or stop having periods altogether — as a result of certain medications, excessive exercise, very low body weight, or not eating enough calories. Others may develop problems as a result of a hormone imbalance. For example, disorders of the thyroid gland can cause menstrual irregularities if the levels of thyroid hormone in the blood become too low or too high.
