a girl I know used to be slim, then in less than two months has really piled it on. I have never seen such weight gain like this, what could have caused it?

Change in diet, change in activity level, hormones, water weight, pregnancy, allergies….
To find out what’s going on with you, start off with a daily log of what you eat and drink. Each time you put something in your mouth (gum, water, meals, candy, chips, soda, juice, fruits, etc), write it down and include HOW MUCH you’re taking in. Then, after doing this for a few days, look at what you’re eating. It may be more food (and calories) than you think you’re eating!
If that’s not the cause, look at your sodium intake. This causes water retention. Americans, as an average, get 20-40 TIMES the necessarily daily requirement of sodium (it’s in all sorts of foods–soda, processed foods, frozen meals, fast food…).
If that’s not the case, speak to your doctor. S/he may want to run tests to check hormone levels.
Perhaps she binge eats in secret. If that’s the case you wouldn’t have any idea she is doing it, you would only see the weight gain. Chances are she wouldn’t tell anybody about it either.
She could also be under stress, sometimes that causes people to gain weight.
Thyroid will come to mind. But is hard to said anything, if she taking medication such as steroids, some physicians prescribed this for problems such as ashma, allergies, lupus, cancer, etc… Check precribed medication, thruyroid and the answer is not there should check with aprofessional.
well at age 15 or right around there is when you can start gaining weight. for ex. im 12, and i can eat whatever i want but i wont gain any weight. by the time im 15 i can eat the same thing i eat now but i would gain all that weight. when your younger, growing kinda burns calories and stuff and you have better metabolism, more active.
if she was strictly dieting before maybe she has lost control of her diet and her body is fighting back and regaining it.. they say when you go off a crash diet and regain it your gain is usually more then what it originally was. it could also be hormones. or if she has been lonely, that could cause it. alot of people find their best friend in food.
MMmmm. Now let me think cos this is a real tricky one……………….I’d say it could be one of two possible causes. Overeating (ie too much food) or pregnancy (being up the duff).

More than likely Pregnancy!
pregnancy
Going on the pill, or eating too much. or being pregnant.
Why do you ask? Are you worried about her because she’s your mate, or did you fancy her and now you have gone off her because she’s getting fat?
Puberty.
comfort eating/depression/anxiety – on the contrary contentment. An illness or medication….there are many possibilities in fact
sounds like she’s pregnant. but who knows.

Depression causing her to eat more than usual?
