One glass of wine, at 144 calories, probably wouldn't do much of anything if you are healthy and eat well and exercise.
Compared to the other main types of food, you might say alcohol is a bit more fattening. Alcohol (straight) has about 7 calories per gram, lower than fat (9 calories) but higher than carbs and protein (4 calories).
But alcohol has other things about it that make it more fattening. One is that although the alcohol in a drink may be small (1 oz vodka = 64 calories) the other parts of the drink are often sugary (like in wine coolers, or margaritas) or have extra fat (like Irish cream). So even though the alcohol in a few drinks may only be 64 calories, the sugar and fat content of the whole drink may be another 100 or more calories.
And, as a bonus, if you drink alcohol, your body has to digest it through the stomach and liver, which puts your body into a 'fat storage' mode where extra calories get stored as body fat, mostly around your abdominal organs. The fat is under the muscle, so it feels like you have 'firm abs', but you still have the 'beer belly'.
