i have a 4 yr old quarter horse and she is underweight. She dropped her weight because her previous owner went to jail and did not feed her 3 weeks. She looks good now but i know that she still needs some weight gain. Can anyone give me an answere??? thank you
well there are many ways to do it but i would suggest calling a vet and getting an opinion you can call any large animal vets office and ask for a vet to answer a few questions for you that would be the best opinion you can get plus it will only cost you the call not the whole vet bill unless you actually have the vet come out and have him give do an evaluation for you.
have fun with your new horse and if you need any mare advice feel free to email me
You don’t want her to gain too rapidly, slow and steady is best, so just increase her feed and slowly introduce higher calorie items. You can offer free-choice quality grass hay, and a grain-based feed as well. I like Senior horse feeds for weight gain. They are easy to digest and high calorie because a lot of senior horses have trouble putting weight on.
