I’ve gained 22lbs in 1 year and I’m tired alot of the time. My doctor did a thyroid test but claims that Paxil is the cause of my weight gain. My eating habits have not changed but my weight has.

Yes, if u have an “inactive” thyroid, u will gain weight, just like the “overactive” thyroid will make people loose weight. If ur not , you should start taking vitamins and drinking mineral water. It kicks up your metabolism. U should also give vitamin B12 a try.
Paxil is not common in most people. The best way to deal with it is to get a general weight lost diet. I had paxil myself and it is not pleasent. After a time period, the results will start to show. For me it took a couple months but every person is different. It depends on how long you had it and how long you’ve done nothing about it.
Anti-depressants can cause weight gain. Anti-depressants actually cause fatigue in the beginning, yet they fade over time. If you have been taken it awhile and your energy levels haven’t improved, asked your doctor if it’s possible to switch to another medication. What works for one person may not work for another. Hormone levels might show up as normal, however that doesn’t mean you don’t have a sluggish thyroid. If you are concerned about your hormone levels, I would recommend going to an endocrinologist(doctor who specializes in the endocrine system-hormones).
In the mean time, neurotransmitter levels might be off-balance as well. Low levels of serotonin, the feel-good neurotransmitter, actually is common in those with depression. One way to raise those levels the natural way is to exercise. Even a 30-minute walk 3x/week makes all the difference in how you feel. Hope all goes well:)
Your Doc has done lab,s and all he can do. And a lot of anti depressants can cause Waite gain.Does thyroid problems run in the family, My mom complained of wait gain, And they did the blood work and it came back normal, A Couple of months later she went back and told her doctor that their was some thing wrong again they did blood work a OK but she said no their is some thing wrong so they did a biopsy of her thyroid and it was cancerous. My point is some times you have to keep on your doctors to do all they can do. good luck
yes my sister is only 12 and is close to 170 she has no thyroid and has to take a pill everyday there are 2 forms of thyroid problems one keeps the weight on and one will not let you gain any
Yes your thyroids can cause you to gain weight and if your doctor says that, that is not the problem then he needs to do some extensive testing to find out what is really causing your weight gain and maybe it is your paxil but before he comes to that conclusion he needs to do some more testing.and if less just say that if a person becomes pregnant it can cause heart problems in an unborn child and it can cause also high blood pressure.
