Your Ultimate Guide to Gaining Weight

What Would Be Considered A Dangerous Amount Of Sudden Weight Gain During Pregnancy?

Ive read that you should contact your Dr. immediately if you have a sudden weight gain during pregnancy, I am almost 39 weeks pregnant and in about 24 hours I have gained 3 pounds, I dont like to contact my Dr. unless I really feel I have an emergency and I am just not sure with this one, I just dont want to overreact, does anyone know if this is normal weight gain?

You’re fine. Just eat regularly and exercise a little.

Im a guy, and I’ve never been pregnant. (go figure)
But I’ve gained and/or lost 5-6 pounds in 36 hours many times.
I imagine you are more prone to gain in your current condition than I am.
But trust your feelings, If something is worrying you by all means-
    CALL – YOUR – DOCTOR!
Mothers Instinct is not a rumor, It exixts.
And trust what YOUR OWN body is telling you as well.

You may want to get that checked. It may bea sign of a complication like gestational diabetes or preeclampsia.

  4. critical says:

I think three pounds in one day is a little much. I’d call and let them know.
“so also let your caregiver know if you gain more than 4 pounds in a week.”
If you’re not supposed to gain more than 4 pounds in a week, 3 pounds in a day is really big. This could be a big indicator of preeclampsia.

You are worried about JUST 3 pounds???
You are almost ready to deliver. Don’t worry any more!

  6. ♫Hope♫ says:

I was told if you gain more than 2 pounds in one week NOT DUE TO OVEREATING then contact my doc.

  7. dumpling says:

this is fine, probably fluid retention and it will go thru out the day,you shouldnt be obsessed with your weight like this.

It’s still normal. OB’s don’t even look at the weight that closely. They look at the weight overall. And, because you’re so late in the game – it could be a few things. First of all, baby is gaining weight daily now, getting ready for birth. Secondly, it could be water gain. Also, you may be just hungry.
Don’t worry so much about the weight gain. Concentrate on continuing to eat healthy – and make sure that you’re drinking plenty of water. You surely don’t want to go into labor dehydrated!

  9. tumadre says:

It sounds like water weight gain. but, Do you really want to take a chance with you or your baby’s life? You’re not overreacting. Better safe than sorry. Go to the doctor
